I stumbled across this pen while browsing r/fountainpens. While it did not initially captivate me that much, the odd brand name Bungubox stuck out as something weird and rather unusual. Maybe I am just new and hadn't heard of the brand. Who knows? Either way, I looked it up and saw the detailed photos of it. The dark blue glittery resin really grabbed my eye and made me keep thinking about it. After a bit, I decided I would take the plunge. Perhaps this is one of the more popular or "standard" pens being essentially a Sailor Pro Gear that has been specially made for Bungubox, but it still retains the core value I look for in a pen to add to my collection being that it has really connected with me and captivated me.
This nib is very interesting. I have seen it be called some custom grind. I am unsure if this is even a standard grind, but considering Sailor pens often offer this nib, I would not consider it to be a custom grind. Many refer to it as a specialty grind. I might actually hesitate to do that as well.
For me, the nib is fun and interesting. Zoom they call it. If you write from a low angle, it is broad. Broad might be underselling the thickness of line. It would be at least doublebroad. As you move to a higher writing angle, it approaches fine if not extrafine. Hence the Zoom name. Depending on how you writie with it, it can be like zooming in on the lines. Pretty cool and nifty. Would I consider writing with this all the time? Yes actually.
The nib itself is smooth and wet. At a low writing angle nearing doublebroad thickness, it is a gusher, but I would assume that of all superbroad nibs. I expect those to put down ink and a nice thick line. The writing experience is seamless all over. There is no complaint about the pen in terms of writing experience.
The only complaint I have is that the pen does not come with a Sailor standard converter. Otherwise the pen is as much as I could ask for. The box is wonderful and included two cartridges of Sailor Blue Black. Bungubox themselves handwrote me a Christmas card that came with the pen. In addition, I had expected the pen to arrive after Christmas, but they made sure the pen arrived Christmas Eve. While this may have been coincidence, the fact that they included a handwritten Christmas card caught me off guard. I am so impressed. There is a very high chance I would purchase another blue pen from Bungubox whenever they come out with another one.
